SUCI (Communist) protests exorbitant hike in power tariff

Patna/Muzaffarpur, March 31:

On statewide protest day against the exorbitant hike in power tariff the SUCI (Communist) activists burnt the effigy of CM Nitish Kumar in Patna and Muzaffarpur on Saturday.

Addressing the gathering after burning the effigy the speakers at Bhagat Singh Chowk in Patna and Post Office Chowk at Muzaffarpur said, “ The State government controlled Bihar State Electricity Board had proposed earlier the 50 per cent increase in existing tariff to be effected from April 1st. But seeing anger and wrath of common people and mass movement against the announcement of this excessive hike the government compelled to review its decision and increased a hike in nearly 12 per cent. This enhancement in tariff is out and out anti people and condemnable. The JDU-BJP government in its six years regime increased the power tariff several times and consequently the rate of electricity went two and half times dearer.”

“The government is moving with a sinister design of handing over power sector built through the hard earned money of the people to capitalists. Parroting the slogan of development and good governance the Nitish government is rapidly introducing anti people Power Act-2003 in the state.” said the speakers.

The speakers said that the recent hike in power tariff would be a fatal blow to the people reeling under acute price rise, unemployment and poverty. In spite of recovering dues of Rupees 4000 crores from the capitalists the state government has exposed it’s anti people character increasing the rate of power tariff for the consumers.

In Patna the gathering was addressed by M. K. Pathak, Member, Bihar State Committee, SUCI (Communist); Baidyanath Sharma, Awadesh Kumar, Rajkumar Chaudhary, Anamika, all District Committee Members, SUCI (Communist) while at Muzaffarpur Arjun Kumar, Secretary, Muzaffarpur District Committee, SUCI (Communist); Kashinath Sahani, Ram Naresh Ray, Arvind Kumar and Shiv Chandra Paswan, all District Committee Members, SUCI (Communist) spoke on the occasion. All the speakers urged the consumers to build up sustained mass movement against the excessive hike in power tariff.
