Convention on National Policy on Education-2016 at Darbhanga

Darbhanga, April 23, 2017:
Keeping in mind the eagerness and doubts of teachers, professors, students, educationists and education loving people regarding the contents of the National Policyon Education (NPE) 2016 being brought by PM Mr. Narendra Modi government a convention was organized by All India Save Education Committee (AISEC) Darbhanga Chapter on Sunday. The venue was Seminar Hall of C M College under Lalit Narayan Mithila University (LNMU), Darbhanga. Many teachers, professors, students and education loving people participated.

Addressing the convention as chief guest Prof. Vinay Kumar Kanth, eminent educationist and former professor, Patna University said, “NPE-2016 will enhance the ongoing process of privatization of education. Government is shirking its responsibility to impart education to its citizens. NPE-2016 will not bring any fundamental change to the present anti education policy of the government; rather it would deprive the common students of education. Education would be out of the reach of majority of population of the country. A conspiracy is being hatched in the country to destroy the whole education. People’s thought and mentality is also being controlled as well. Showing the silver lining Prof. Kanth said people of the country were strongly protesting the anti people policies of the government as the force of resistance had not yet finished.

Addressing the convention Rajkumar Chaudhary, Convener, AISEC, Bihar Chapter, said: “There is no mention of aims and objectives of education and no discussion on scientific, secular and democratic education in the documents and reports of upcoming NPE-2016. Even there is no mention of the dearth of teachers and teaching materials, educational irregularities, maladies and the pathetic conditions of the schools. It has been recommended to facilitate the establishment of selected foreign universities with joint collaboration of Indian universities. Evidently students have to pay exorbitant fees depending on their ‘brand values’.” He said that government never expended even 6 per cent of its GDP.

Holding fully responsible the government for the worsening condition of basic education Sadhana Mishra, Former Secretary, AISEC, Bihar Chapter, said that all the governments, irrespective of their slogans, curtailed the education budget. Referring the recommendation of NPE-2016 in regard to prevent political activities of the students in campus she said it would eventually help the politics of ruling class. “In context of society ‘market’ had given more priority than justice, freedom and equal opportunity”, she said.

In his presidential speech Prof. Dharmendra Kumar, President, AISEC Darbhanga Chapter and professor of History, LNMU, said, “Every civilized government should take full financial responsibility of education. But the documents of upcoming NPE-2016 advocate the private investment and PPP mode in education. Consequently the scope of education would be limited to a few.” He appealed all the teachers, students and education loving people to build up united movement against upcoming NPE.

Among others Dr. Prabhu Narayan Jha, Ex DSW, LNMU, Dr. Vidya Nath Jha, Principal, MRM Women College, Dr. Mitra Nath Jha, Principal, Mithila Research Institute, Dr. Manjar Suleman, Principal, Dr. Jakir Hussain Teachers Training College, Darbhanga, Dr. Pravas Chandra Mishra, Head, Deptt.of History, LNMU, Dr, Surendra Prasad Suman, Thakur Dhirendra Singh, Literator, Dr. Suman Kumar Jha, Ruso Sengupta, Amarnath Thakur, Abhishek Kumar Bhagat,Lalit Kumar Jha and Amit Kumar Thakur spoke on the occasion.
