On International Women Day: Seminar on ‘Atrocities on Women and the Law’

Under the auspices of All India Mahila Sanskritik Sangthan a seminar on ‘Atrocities on Women and the Law’ was held here at IMA Hall on the occasion of International Women Day. Addressing the seminar Senior Advocate of Patna High Court Anjana Bhagat said, ‘’ In spite of many laws in fevour of women the crimes on the women, especially the domestic violence is on increase. They are still victims of dowry harassment, sexual and mental exploitation on work place. Female feticide is going as usual. Victims have to face awkward questions in courts. They also suffer because of the time-taking legal procedures. Women should come out in support of of other women is crisis.” Prof. Daisy Narain, teacher Patna University said: “Hardly any improvement in the condition of women has been witnessed under different governments. Though punishments have become more rigorous, the rate of convictions has dropped. The ground reality has not changed much.” Addressing the seminar Shyamali Mukherjee, All India leader, AIMSS, said: Our organization is fighting for equal right of women and safeguard of their dignity. Still to day women are victims of on the one hand cruel capitalist exploitation and male dominated society on the other. Women have to snatch their rights as it will not be got in begging. They have to point out the problems and form committees comprising the women of different strata. The seminar was also addressed by Indira Laxmi, advocate, Patna High Court, Dr. Meera Dutta and others. The seminar was presided over by Sadhan Mishra, State Secretary, AIMSS and conducted by Anamika.
