Protest March in Patna Showing Solidarity with Chicago Protest Against NATO and G8 Summit

Expressing solidarity with international protests, rallies and marches being organized at Chicago, the venue of the NATO meeting and other places to oppose the NATO and G8 war and poverty agenda to protest against the imperialist policies of oppression, exploitation, aggression and war, the effigy of Barack Obama, chieftain of imperialist world was burnt and a protest march was organized here on Saturday at the call of International Anti Imperialist Coordinating Committee (IACC) , All India Anti Imperialist Forum (AIAIF) and Socialist Unity Centre of India (Communist) [SUCI (C)]. After burning the effigy at Shaheed Bhagat Singh Chowk a well decorated procession with anti-imperialist, anti-war, anti-aggression and anti-capitalist placards and banners was taken out and traversing JP Golamber, Fraser Road and Dak bungalow Crossing reached Patna Junction Roundabout. The participants were raising thunderous slogans against the increasing militarization and worldwide intervention of NATO, continuing occupations in Afghanistan, threat of intervention in Syria and as well as adherence of Indian ruling class to imperialists.

Addressing the gathering at Patna Junction Roundabout the speakers said, ‘’ NATO and G8 represent the interests of the global 1 % and are against the interests of the global 99 %. NATO conducts undeclared wars on Pakistan, Yemen and Syria while threatening war on Iran. It is a brutal military machine that holds more than 80 percent of world’s weapons. Its voices filled with awe, the media have publicized NATO hightech bunker busting bombs, nuclear weapons, napalm and cluster bombs stockpiled at 1000 military bases around the world.”

The speakers mentioned the fact that there have been protests in Europe against NATO summits in Strasbourg in 2009 and in Lisbon in 2010, this is the first time that large numbers of Americans are discussing and challenging NATO. At the same time they mentioned that in anticipation of large-scale demonstrations, the Obama administration decided to remove the G8 summit on May 19 to the less accessible Camp David in Maryland. The speakers demanded stop threat of NATO interventions in Syria as well as immediately withdrawal of troops Afghanistan. The speakers condemned the pro imperialist policies of the Indian government and demanded to break all the ties with imperialists including stoppage of joint military exercises.

“A militant peace movement against growing against the imperialist policies of oppression, exploitation, aggression and war is the need of the hour,’’ said all the speakers in one voice. The protest was led by Prof. Nawal Kishore Chaudhary, Deptt. of Economics, Patna University, Prof. Santosh Kumar, Former Professor in IIT, Patna. Prof. Safadar Imam Kadari, Deptt. of Urdu, College of Commerce, Patna, Er. Vikash Rahi, Shiv Shankar, Secretary, Bihar State Committee, SUCI (Communist), Arun Kumar Singh, Senior Member, Bihar State Committee, SUCI (Communist), Sadhana Mishra, Secretary, Patna District Committee, SUCI (Communist).
