Talk on ‘People’s Uprisings in Different Countries, Anti-Imperialist Movement and its Lessons’

Under the auspices of All India Anti Imperialist Forum, Patna Chapter a talk was organized on the topic of ‘People’s Uprisings in Different Countries, Anti-Imperialist Movement and its Lessons’ at Gandhi Sangrahalaya here on August 4, 2012. The talk was addressed by Manik Mukherjee, General Secretary, International Anti-Imperialist Coordinating Committee (IACC). In course of discussing the different aspects of anti-imperialist movements round the globe, he said that movements were getting momentum round the world against imperialism. The people’s uprisings in different countries including America were its signals. People’s anger against imperialism, war and autocracy was a new ray of hope. He said further, “USA is in deep recession which is deeper than the great recession of 30s of the last century. Capitalism is in death bed. Today it is impossible for them to restrain the mass movements and to save capitalism.” Replying a question he said that ‘Occupy Wall Street Movement’ left a great impact on the common people. Protesting people were talking of occupying big bungalows. On Indian context he said that though we got freedom through the great sacrifices of the common people, we did not get real freedom, the people’s salvation. He stressed the need of building and developing mass movements on the people’s burning problems.

Prof. O.P. Jaisawal, Retd. Professor, Patna University presided over the talk. Prof. D. M. Diwakar, Director, A. N. Sinha Institute of Social Study, Prof. Purnendu Mukherhee, Retd. Professor, Patna University, Dr. Suresh Kumar and Akhter Hussain, Social Activist made also participated in the discussion. Dr. Razi Ahmed, Secretary, Gandhi Sangrahalaya, Patna, Prof. Ishwari Prasad, Retd. Professor, JNU, Prof. Safadar Imam Kadari, Professor, College of College, Patna, Dr. R. B. Singh, Dr. Om Prakash, Akshay Kumar and Ram Naresh Jha were present amongst others on this occasion. Arun Kumar Singh, Secretary, All India Anti Imperialist Forum, Bihar Chapter conducted the programme.
